Anthology Film Archives is thrilled to announce the release of two new, limited edition fine art prints by John Baldessari and Shingo Francis. John Baldessari
John Baldessari (American, born 1931) is a leading 20th century artist and a pioneer of conceptual art. Baldessari works in a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, film, video, installation, sculpture, and photography. His work is distinct for its wit and playfulness, the juxtaposition of visuals and text, the use of appropriated images, and his iconic, signature colored dots.Recent solo exhibitions include a show at Mӧnchehaus Museum Goslar, Goslar, Germany; “John Baldessari: A Print Retrospective from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation” at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego La Jolla, CA; “John Baldessari: Double Bill” at the Marian Goodman Gallery in Paris, France; and “John Baldessari: Double Bill (Part 2)” at the Margo Leavin Gallery in Los Angeles, CA.
In 2009, the solo exhibit “John Baldessari: Pure Beauty,” traveled from the Tate Modern in London, to the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles; and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York.
He has had over 200 solo exhibits worldwide, and has received numerous awards and honors. Baldessari's works are part of major public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
Shingo Francis
Shingo Francis (American, born 1969) is an abstract and minimalist painter based in New York City and Yokohama, Japan. His work has been exhibited extensively in group and solo exhibitions in the United States and Japan. Recent solo exhibitions include: Kaleidoscope at the Durst Organization’s Lobby Gallery (2013); New Public Art Installation at 100 Wall Street, NY; and Bound for Eternity at The Bogart Salon in Brooklyn, NY (2012).Recent residencies include: Marma (Berlin, Germany; 2012), the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Swing Space program at Governors Island (2010); and at the Montalvo Arts Center (Saratoga, CA 2009). In 2003, he was awarded the Fumio Nanjo Award at Spiral, Tokyo.
Francis received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992 from Pitzer College in Claremont, California, and is a founding member of The Hatch Art Space in Los Angeles.
